Environmental Statement

It is Printing Arts Press’s policy to conduct all activities in an environmentally responsible manner. We recognize that this not only makes good business sense but is also the right thing to do.

Paper
• Virtually 100% of our paper purchases are from paper companies that are Forest Stewardship Council Certified.
  
• We recycle tons of paper and cardboard every month.
  
• Whenever possible we use recycled papers, and encourage others to do the same.
  
  Forest Stewardship Council
  
• In its own words, FSC is a non-profit organization devoted to encouraging the responsible management of the world’s forests. FSC sets high standards that ensure forestry is practiced in an environmentally responsible, socially beneficial, and economically viable way. Our regular paper suppliers all have FSC Certification.
  
• The essence of FSC’s mission is to verify that landowners and forest product companies are practicing forestry consistent with FSC standards, and to monitor the chain of custody of forest products – the movement of FSC certified products from forest to pulp provider to paper mills and printers.
  
  Plates, Inks and Solvents
  
• Our PrePress Dept. has been free of any solvents for many years since we changed to Computer to Plate and processless plates that continue to be recycled.
  
• We use inks and toners that are recyclable.
  
• The chemicals and solvents we use are almost 100% water soluble, biodegradable, and recyclable.
  
  Efficient and Effective Operations
  
• We have implemented programs to reduce our electrical consumption and to minimize the usage of all raw materials.
  
• A very important way that we urge our customers to partner with us in our environment efforts is by using our online ordering, proofing, and reordering system. This system enables all of us to save substantial amounts of gasoline and other raw materials.
  
• Recycling does not stop in the printing plant but continues into our offices with plastics, light bulbs, batteries, computers, cell phones and more.
  
• Our employees are actively involved in reducing our environmental footprint through meaningful improvements. Initially, the majority of efforts were focused on projects that would make internal process improvements and reduce the company’s environmental footprint.
  
  Earth Day Sponsor
• We proudly support Earth Day events such as the Kenyon College Brown Family Environmental Center Earth Day Challenge Marathon. Earth Day across the country is intended to inspire awareness of and appreciation for the Earth’s environment. U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson started Earth Day as an environmental teach-in in 1970, and is currently celebrated in many countries each year on April 22. As an Environmentally Green Printer we celebrate and encourage Earth Day activities.

Initially, the majority of efforts were focused on projects that would make internal process improvements and reduce the company’s environmental footprint. Today we continue to reduce our impact on this precious environment and to encourage the transformation of the graphic communications industry as a whole.
